Ellisfield Census 1851-1901

Extract from Ellisfield 1881 census
Ellisfield is a village of just under 2,350 acres. It is situated six miles south-east of Basingstoke town centre and two miles west of the A339, the Basingstoke to Alton road. The prevailing employment in the period 1851-1901 was agricultural with several men working as dealers in wood, woodmen and hurdle makers reflecting the local landscape. The rectory and the larger farms employed male and female domestic servants.
The six census from 1851-1901 have been transcribed by VCH Hampshire volunteers. Place names have been given the modern spelling and where script is difficult to read or text is missing, square brackets have been used.
