Ellisfield 1851 census

Ellisfield parish; Bradley parish:

The whole of the parish of Ellisfield including Ellisfield Common, Northgate Farm and Ellisfield village and the whole of the village of  Bradley (lying compact).

The enumerator for this census has not listed any addresses.  The population is 272. Four farmers with a total of 984 acres are listed as well as one former farmer; they employ 34 labourers but a total of 72 men describe themselves as agricultural labourers, some as young as ten. Other occupations for men are hurdlemaker, woodman, miller, baker, shoemaker, tailor, carpenter, blacksmith and wheelwright.  There is a beer house and an inn.  15 women are employed in domestic service, mostly living on the large farms.
