Summary page of the 1851 Cliddesden census
Cliddesden parish lies two miles to the south of Basingstoke, now separated from it by the M3. The Wallop family, well-known in Hampshire, became Lords of the Manor in the 15th century. The prevailing traditional employment was farming but domestic service was also important with several large gentry houses in the parish.
