Transcription of 1901 census

The population in 1901 was 321, a slight and continuing decrease from 1881 and 1891. It was evenly balanced with 161 males and 160 females. There were 55 married couples and 17 widows or widowers, double that of the previous census. Houses totalled 74 of which 4 were unoccupied. The number of occupants born in Cliddesden was 76, yet a further decrease from earlier times, 166 people were from other parts of Hampshire and 79 from outside the county including those from outside the country (U.S.A, Ireland and India) - a very significant social change in mobility over the previous 50 years. Agricultural occupations remained predominant with farm carter (21) and agricultural labourer (24), but new occupations included relieving officer, electrician, cycle apprentice, and labourer on public works (possibly the railway). Domestic service remained an important occupation (30).
