Transcription of 1891 census

The population in 1891 was 329, 5 less than the previous census, (169 male and 160 female). There were 58 married couples and 8 widows or widowers. 3 of the 70 houses were unoccupied. Continuing mobility of the population is evident with only 90 occupants born in Cliddesden, 158 had come from elsewhere in Hampshire and 81 from widely disparate parts of the country. Occupations included a range of agriculturally linked jobs such as farm carter, shepherd (6), blacksmith, wheelwright and hay & straw binder although a marked decrease in agricultural labourers (29) is shown.
