Will & inventory of William Stone, rector, 1701

This is a transcript of the will of William Stone, dated 9 December 1701 and proved at the Prerogative  Court of Canterbury on 3 December 1702. The accompanying inventory is very faded and difficult to read in places, though it gives a fascinating glimpse of the rectory, with its 'old kitchen', buttery, kitchen and  parlour (both with rooms above), the cyder house with room above, the millhouse with its cider mill, and a barn.

The will, too, is full of interest. It would appear that the Rev. Stone and his wife had no living children, and he left money to a number of nephews. He stipulated that his wife should spend 30s. on erecting grave stones for his mother and father and brother Robert and that his nephew John should spend the interest of 20s bequeathed to him in 'gryaring' [graving? or cleaning?] the graves each year.
