Smuggled salt

In Somerset most smuggling was from Ireland where labour was cheaper. The government imposed duties to protect English manufacturers. One of the goods smuggled was salt and an interesting case of a Minehead captain and a Bridgwater smuggler sheds a lot of light on the true nature of the business.
