Kemp Town Brighton

Kemp Town was begun slightly before Brunswick Town by Thomas Read Kemp. The development process chosen here was different from that for Brunswick Town. Scutt took a back seat at Brunswick and sold plots and let his surveyor control the development on them. Kemp tried to fund all of the facades and then sell the carcases to be fitted out afterwards, thus committing a lot of capital if sales were not quick. This became his problem, but contrary to some claims he was not bankrupted. For more information about Kemp, look him up under his separate entry.
