1881 census

The whole of the parish of Dummer with Kempshott including cottage at Ganderdown, Southwood Farm, Kempshott House and cottages, the Kennel cottages, New Barn farmhouse and cottages, Dummer Down farmhouse and cottages and Dummer village.
Sir Nelson Ryecroft, high sheriff of the county of Hampshire lived at Kempshott House, which was included in the Dummer census of 1881. He employed 12 domestic servants including a governess, butler, footman, nursery maid and a housekeeper. Richard Elwes at Dummer House employed eight domestic servants including a governess, butler and ladies’ maid.
There were 390 habitants in the village, most of whom were born in the local area.
