Richard Phelps

The Phelps family of Porlock and Luccombe was a very modest one but clearly there were latent artistic talents. Richard the painter of altarpieces and his son Richard the portrait painter and folly designer stepped out of the usual round of agricultural and related trades in 18th-century West Somerset. Largely forgotten today the younger Richard at least, through his work at Dunster, has left a substantial legacy of work.
