Eastnor Probate Material 1641-1660

There are only four surviving wills for Eastnor people for this period, covering the English Civil War and the Commonwealth. Apart from the disruption and anxiety caused by the war, the system of ecclesiastical courts, which had jurisdiction over probate, was dismantled during the Commonwealth. From 1653 until the Restoration in 1660 all wills had to be proved at the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. In fact, all four of the Eastnor wills of this period were proved there.
