Brunswick Town

This print is of a development of the mid 1820s which was built over a brown field site - a brickfield. This very sensible use of such land was common.
The Scutt family had let the land be used for brickfields for many years and once the ever expanding resort of brighton reached the boundary with Hove, in which this development stood, it made sense to build, opening brickfields farther west.
The architect was C. A. Busby. Many of the drawings are in the collection owned by the Royal Institute of British Architects and available to see with advance notice at the Victoria and Albert print Rooms. The list is on the Library web site of the RIBA.
