Regency Square, Brighton

Regency Square was begun by a London developer in 1818 on Belle Vue field. It was the first large planned square in Brighton and Hove and may have inspired the developers of Kemp and Brunswick Towns in the early 1820s which are far bigger.  This image of it is from a diorama by Amon Henry Wilds which he produced in 1833.  Brighton Museum and Art Gallery now produce a copy which is in a little folded format.  It can be taken along this part of the front and many of the buildings he drew can be spotted.
