The letter accompanying the completed questionnaire contained this paragraph: "We have done our best to supply the required information on St Ildierna's (about which very little is known from the medieval period), but we do have one fundamental difficulty.  The church suffered a serious fire after an arson attack in February 2005 and is still undergoing the lengthy and painstaking process of restoration. Thankfully, none of the medieval oak benches was damaged but they are presently stored under dust sheets and will be inaccessible, probably until the repair to the carved ceilings is complete (in 2007).  We have not therefore been able to carry out the detailed audit of the benches, nor to take any meaningful photographs."Plans are in hand to re-visit the church.
