Dunster's potteries and brickworks

There may have been a medieval pottery in Dunster but in the mid 18th century pottery was one of the industries being promoted, possibly to help offset the decline in textiles. It was not a success although studio potters worked in Dunster from 1959.

The demand for bricks encouraged brickmaking from the early 18th century but it was the growth of Minehead from the late 19th century that led to the success of the Alcombe brickyard. That success meant the end of the Warren brickyard but some of its buildings survived converted to a clubhouse for Minehead's golf links.
