Will of William Weast/West, yeoman, 1612

West was a draper, a rich and well established member of Basingstoke elite, reflected in his status as a yeoman. He was joint third highest in the assessment of 1603 subsidy (£6) ((HRO 44M69/E4/125).  He was fined as a draper 1583 (148M71/2/7/35), and bailiff 1598-9, warden of the Holy Ghost chapel 1608/9. He had 3 tenements for rent in  Godalming.
