Will of William Pell, Gent, 1657

Pell was clearly a wealthy gentleman with many contacts in England including in Basingstoke, London, Leicestershire and Ely. He owned a house rented by a goldsmith called the Roase in Linberd Street, London which he left to his brother, a London merchant, with instructions for him to sell the property to raise £835 to cover bequests to his family and friends, some of whom lived in London and Leicester. He left £5 for the poor of Basingstoke which at the time was a generous amount. No inventory survives.
