Will of Richard Deane, gentleman, 1601

Deane held lands in Basingstoke, Kingsclere and Wildmoor. He also had considerable property which he let out to some 13 tenants, all of whom he granted one quarter’s rent rebate. He was a brother of Sir James Deane (d. 1607). Deane was a schoolmaster at the Holy Ghost School 1575-77. He was paid £8 a year. He also served as warden of the Holy Ghost guild.
