Will of Nicholas Magewick, clothier, 1566

Magewick, a clothier, left bequests to his spinners in Dummer, North Waltham and elsewhere. He left each of his six sons and two daughters £10 and ten tod of good fleece wool as well as money from the rent of Grange Farm. If his wife, Alice, remarried she was to give all the children an additional £10 each. If any of the children married without their mother’s consent they had to forgo this legacy. He also left wheat, malt and 40s. to be distributed at his burial, month’s mind and year’s mind for the health of his, his father’s and mother’s souls. No inventory survives.
