Will of John Belchamber 1546

Belchamber’s will was written in Latin and opens with a protestant declaration to ‘Jesus Christ, saviour of god and men’. A wealthy innkeeper and a mercer or clothier in Basingstoke he had migrated to Cliddesden. His family descendants remained in the parish in the 17th century. He left over £100 in his will as well as tenements and land in Basingstoke, Cliddesden and elsewhere.
