Will & inventory of Thomas Pewtress, bachelor, 1667

This is a transcript of the undated will of Thomas Pewtress, described as a 'bachelor' in the inventory taken on 8 February 1667. He had been buried two days before.

The term 'bachelor', as well as meaning an unmarried man, also had connotations of gentility or even of a university eduation, though both of these latter iterpretations are unlikely in this context. The will mentions no wife or children and the the modest goods in the inventory suggest a poor husbandman, with a flock of sheep and a blind mare amongst them.
