Will and inventory of William Omeden, husbandman, 1613

William Omeden’s widowed mother, Margaret, was the copyholder of Corpus Christi copyhold number 2. The farmhouse was Maple Cottage, of early 16th century origin, which still survives in 2013. William was one of the lives named on her copyhold and his son, Richard, became the copyholder in 1615. The inventory records a lease but whether this is a reference to the copyhold or other land is not known. The inventory concludes with a strange valuation of the unknown: ‘item in other things by us forgotten and not remembered we price it at 7s.0d.’.
