Will and Inventory of Roger Gold/Golde, parson, 1564

Golde was the parson of Dummer from 1564.  He asked for his body to be buried before the pulpit in Dummer church and that at his burial 33s. 4d. be given to the poor people of the parish. This gift was to be repeated a month later and again at the next Easter after his death. He left a bushel of wheat and barley to every householder in the parish. Amongst bequests to family members he left horses, cows, sheep and young pigs as well as wool. An interesting gift was that of the carpet that lay on his bed on condition that the church might borrow it to lay upon the Communion Table at High Feasts. His inventory was valued at over £85. His grave is marked by a memorial brass at a pew’s end in the nave.
