Will and inventory of Nicholas Mathew/Mathewe, senior, 1581

Mathewe senior lived in Hoddington, a tything within the parish of Upton Grey and left assets of some £19. As a husbandman he had a small flock of sheep but the most valuable assets in his inventory were his crops, particularly the wheat, barley oats, vetches and peas still in the ground. In the event of his wife remarrying he left his ploughs and cart to his son Thomas.
