Will and inventory of Murrogh Jorden, brewer, 1649

Murrogh Jorden left 30s. to the poor of Cliddesden, 20s. to the poor of Upton Grey, 20s. to the poor of Ellisfield, 20s. to the poor of Wonston and 20s. to the poor of Nutley. Unfortunately, his inventory does not include mention of tools of his trade. We do not know where he brewed. The likelihood is that before his death, he had retired from brewing and sold his assets. The money realised from the sale he had then loaned out at interest. The name suggests Irish descent and he had a brother, Donagh Jorden, who Murrogh thought was still living in Ireland.
