Will and Inventory of Margaret Cooper/Coper, 1597

Cooper left a simple will. She asked for burial in Basing, with 4d. left to the cathedral and 15s. for the poor of the parish. Her estate consisted of some fine clothes and an ell of new cloth, plus the sum of £25. For an unmarried woman, that is a considerable sum for her to have accumulated – perhaps through some branch of the cloth industry or from a bequest from her father? She left bequests to her mother, brother and sisters, and friends/colleagues/servants. One sister was appointed executrix and residual beneficiary.
