Will and inventory of John Sumner, yeoman, 1675.

John Sumner was the wealthiest man in Mapledurwell in this period. His inventory was assessed at £932. He owned the 60 acre freehold and was tenant of Corpus Christi College copyhold number 2, which comprised Maple Cottage and about 50 acres of land. He also had a lease probably of land outside Mapledurwell. He possessed very large amounts of wheat, barley, peas and sheep at the time of his death.
