Will and inventory of John Sex/Sexe, 1547

Sexe’s bequest to the church takes the form of sheep. It would seem this man died leaving young children – his wife is executor left to bring them up. Each young child is left 13s 4d with instructions for the amount to be shared with the others ‘if any should fail’ – a sad commentary on the level of child mortality. His elder son was presumably old enough to help on the land and is left half the cart and three horses. He left a number of debts including money to his lord, St John, and to the parish priest.
