Will and Inventory of John Fixer/Fyxar, yeoman, 1607

Fixer/Fyxar’s will (made in 1604), included an inventory of some household goods, but there is no indication of the total size and value of the estate. He left his wife and eldest son as joint executors; his second son received his own bequest of £20 when he reached 21 but was to take over as joint executor should his brother die. Three daughters are named, one married who received 10s. to buy a ring, as did one of her sisters. The other sister was given a bequest of £10 to be paid within six months – perhaps intended for her dowry, and any grandchildren were left 2s. 6d. The furniture listed included the wainscot in the parlour. Three overseers, each given 5s., were left heartfelt instructions to follow his wishes in case any of his children should die, sadly a common occurrence.
