Will and inventory of John Crook/Crooke, senior, yeoman, 1616

Crooke married Joanne, daughter of William Lover and  inherited the latter’s 60 acres of freehold land. He also had 60 acres of copyhold land on which he instructed his son, Arthur, to build a house with three rooms and a barn. Crook was a wealthy man with an inventory worth £192 including 17 cattle, 97 sheep and corn worth £34. His social status was reflected in his choice of the lord of the manor and the rector as overseers of his will.
