Will and Inventory of John Clarke, fuller, 1602

Clarke requested burial in the local churchyard and left 2s. 6d. to the church. Bequests of sheep were left to a son, daughter and grandson, but one son was left the fulling shop and equipment as he seemed to have worked with his father. The main beneficiary and executrix was his wife, who was requested to pay the son at home the same allowance as he had previously received. A quantity of grain in the barn suggested that he was a farmer too. There was malt and brewing equipment, also hops in store, so beer was being brewed. The fulling earth is separately mentioned at £1 3s. 4d. Total value £48 19s. 0d.
