Will and inventory of John Cannar, yeoman, 1641

The Canners were important freeholders in Mapledurwell from 1450-1641. John, who died without sons, was the last Canner to hold the 60 acre freehold. He and his wife, Anne, are commemorated in a brass in Mapledurwell church.
Canner’s inventory includes two dungpots which were a feature of wealthier farming inventories in this area by the 1640s. He practised mixed farming with crops of wheat, barley, oats and peas and possessed sheep valued at £13.
