Will and Inventory of Jasper Bodham/Bodaham, 1614

Bodham/Bodaham probably lived in the north of the parish as he requested burial at Sherfield on Loddon. His wife Margary (d. 1617) was the main beneficiary and executrix, but he left bequests to his father, brothers and ‘daughters in law’ (clear from his wife’s will that they are her daughters), and £10 to an un-named child. There was very little clue to his occupation from the inventory, though 6 pounds of wool was mentioned, and a halberd – so a soldier or militia man at some time. Most of his wealth came from bonds and debts, but was fairly substantial - £67 7s. 4d. It is interesting that ‘three small books’ were separately mentioned. One of his overseers was the rector of nearby Stratfield Turgis.
