Will and inventory of Harry Whyte, 1547

Whyte's will is simple in form but still Catholic in tone with the customary bequests to church and cathedral. There are some specific bequests but the bulk of his estate is shared between his two sons and two daughters. The inventory indicates that he was a farmer of some substance, with cattle, sheep, horses and crops in the ground and in the barn. Unusually, he named the location of his house (next to the churchyard) and there is also mention of a ‘slaughter shop’.
