Will and inventory of Elizabeth King, widow, 1580

Elizabeth King’s inventory amounted to £167 including six horses, working bullocks and 220 sheep. She honoured her deceased husband’s bequest of £50 to be given to her younger son James who was under 16 years of age, as well as all her corn growing in Mapledurwell. She divided the rest of her property between her two sons with the proviso that her elder son Thomas must put James’ inheritance to best advantage until he was 21. If Thomas married before the age of 21 he must put James’ sureties in the hands of overseers.
