Townsend House

This fine town house largely dating from the mid 18th century was probably built for maltster Richard Cox who helped to secure the election of Henry Fownes Luttrell.
William and Blodwyn Richards kept the Red Cap or Minehead Modern School for 60 boys here in the 1920s and 1930s. The school closed before 1939, presumably when Mr Richards became head of the grammar school.
