Stranding of a 'monstrous whale' near Colchester

Title page of a broadsheet recounting the stranding of a ‘monstrous whale’ near Colchester. The description states that the event occurred on the 14th April 1677 between ‘Tuesey and Wotton, two small places about four miles from each other in the County of Essex, and about a dozen or fourteen miles from Colchester’. These and other details suggest that the whale was actually stranded in the Gunfleet estuary (later Holland Haven).
