Rose Cottage in Mapledurwell

Rose Cottage in Mapledurwell was the homestead of a former copyhold of Mapledurwell Manor held of Corpus Christi College in Oxford.
It is presently a 4-bay house, although the fourth bay is problematic, having later (17th c.) framing, but a wall plate which is continuous with the main body of the house. The main 3-bay structure could be a late hall-house on the evidence of heavy sooting once seen on the roof. If so, it is unlikely to post-date c. 1550, while the fairly short, curved braces are probably not much earlier than this date. A yeoman's house.
