Rose and Crown, Nether Stowey

The Rose and Crown, the Crown until 1687, is the oldest surviving public house in Nether Stowey. It was in existence in the early 17th century when the poet John Taylor (d. 1653) complained of the poor food and service. The building itself although heavily altered especially in the 19th century is a late medieval building with a cruck roof.
