Nettlecombe font, marriage

Unusually for the West Country Nettlecombe has a seven sacraments font. It is of East Anglian design and may reflect the tastes of members of the family with connections there. The Whalesboroughs who held Nettlecombe for much of the 15th century had connections with families from eastern England. The font has been badly defaced but the panel showing the sacrament of marriage is one of the best preserved. To its right can be seen a panel illustrating the last rites as a dying man is anointed.
