Mineral railway tracks, east pier, Watchet harbour

These tracks recently unearthed were laid into the 19th century quay surface. The West Somerset Mineral Railway actually extended from the station across the road and onto the quay. Horses were used to haul waggons from the station to the quayside. At this point a small pier formerly jutted into the harbour and was later equipped with hydraulic tippers to load ore into the waiting vessels. It was then shipped to South Wales for smelting.
