Inventory of Joanne Orpwood alias Harmer, 1670

Joane Orpwood was the widow of the rector of Steventon, John Orpwood, who was rector from 1602-58. After her husband’s death she married John Harmar, a clergyman and Greek and Latin scholar who had been ordained in 1617. He served as Master of St Albans School and Under Master at Westminster school before becoming Regius Professor of Greek at Oxford in 1650. Harmar published Greek and Latin texts and religious tracts. Harmar also died in 1670. See Social History.
