Huish Episcopi church doorway

This finely decorated south doorway dates from the 12th century and is the earliest feature of the church. The stonework has been reddened, probably by fire, indicating that the early church may have been burnt down. In rebuilding the doorway was preserved to preserve the continuity of the church on this site. The recorded dedication of the church in 1232 may mark that rebuilding and the oldest fabric of the nave dates from the 13th century.
