Houses in Higher Town, Minehead

These 16th-century houses were probably typical of the better quality houses of Minehead built of limewashed and rendered stone or cob under a thatch roof. They give an impression of what most of Minehead would have looked like in the 17th century. Fires and redevelopment have changed the appearance of most of the town’s streets but Higher Town has retained many of its early houses.
