High Street (east), No. 117 (Highway Hotel)

Though the facade is almost entirely of the 1920s the structure contains remains of another late 15th-century building, which in the mid 16th century was one of many owned by Simon Wisdom. In 1922 it became the Highway Private Hotel, and around that time E.J. Horniman, of The Priory, extended it upwards, to create an apparent second storey.
