Former Wesleyan chapel, Alcombe

Wesleyans at AlcombeĀ  were allowed part of the old Quaker burial ground and built a schoolroom there c.1847 and in 1850 a chapel of local red sandstone opened by Mr Vevers, governor of Taunton Methodist College. The chapel, with 130 seats of which 100 were free, also served Minehead.

The growth of Alcombe made the chapel inadequate and inĀ 1931 a new chapel was opened in Lower Meadow Road and in 1933 the old chapel was returned to the Society of Friends and in 1936 became a private house.
