The former Metrepole Garage, Minehead

When wealthy guests began to arrive by car the Metrepole provided them with a garage. In 1921 the Central garage offered outings to the Doone Valley and even Torquay. There were five garages in Minehead by 1928 and as early as 1921 one offered outings to the Doone Valley and even Torquay. In 1939 there were 17 car hire or garage businesses and a petrol depot and even commercial car parking as Minehead’s streets failed to cope with increasing visiting motor traffic.
