Dunster Butter Cross

Dunster's Butter Cross is its ancient market cross that stood in the High Street until the 1820s when it was relocated to the top end of St George's Street at the junction with Dean Lane where it now stands. It would have been a focus for sellers of butter and other wares in Dunster market. Many local women would have made butter and sold it on market days like the woman from Withycombe whose butter in 1675 was found covered by a napkin stolen from the Angel inn.
