Census 1871

Population was 355 of whom 300 were born in Hampshire.

Farming dominated this era of high farming with 71 agricultural labourers and eight farms. The acreages and number of employees at each farm are specified. The occupier of Lyde mill had two economic roles as a miller and a farmer of 290 acres.

There were 19 domestic servants but also 17 elderly or widowed inhabitants drawing parish out relief as paupers. This indicated the continuing practice of paying out relief to elderly or sick residents rather than admitting them to the workhouse.

No rector is listed, only the curate of Newnham and Mapledurwell.
