Castle Hill House, Nether Stowey

This house, greatly altered and stripped of its stucco, was briefly the home of Coleridge's friends John Cruikshank, son of the agent for Lord Egmont's estates at Enmore, and his wife Anna. Coleridge would slip out of his cottage to visit them in their comfortable home. Their departure from Nether Stowey caused some distress to Coleridge.
John Cruikshank's dream of a spectral ship, which he related to Coleridge, inspired the Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner.
